During the Q&A session after The Woman screened at Sundance earlier this year, an audience member, disgusted by the film’s graphic content and disturbing subject matter, stood up and declared the movie should be “confiscated and burned.” While many (myself included) saw the outburst as a cheap publicity stunt, the film’s premise doesn’t exactly promise roses and butterflies. If you need proof, just look at the first trailer.

Co-written by Jack Ketchum and Lucky McKee — with the latter directing — a new, official teaser has arrived from BloodyDisgusting, who will be distributing it through Bloody Disgusting Selects. You can watch it below:

You can see the outraged theatergoer get booted from the Sundance screening here, if you want both a good laugh and further reason to get hyped about what McKee and his cohorts have in store.

Plot:

The Woman is the last surviving member of a feral clan that has roamed the Northeast Coast for decades. When the last of her family is killed in a battle with the police, The Woman finds herself alone, severely wounded and vulnerable. Unfortunately, she is now a far too easy prey for local hunter, successful country lawyer and seriously disturbed family man Christopher Cleek. With his twisted set of ideals, Cleek decides to embark upon a deranged project – to capture her and “break” The Woman – a decision that will soon threaten the lives of Cleek, his family and The Woman.

Starring Pollyanna McIntosh (Exam), Sean Bridgers (Deadwood), and Angela Bettis (Girl, Interrupted), The Woman goes into limited release this October.

Was this outburst a publicity stunt? Was it a good one, or a bad one?
