First Plot Details Revealed for Jennifer Lawrence’s A24 Movie, Which May Co-Star Brian Tyree Henry

Written by on April 21, 2019

After the grueling one-two punch of brutal psychological thrills then globe-trotting espionage in mother! and Red Sparrow, respectively, Jennifer Lawrence’s next starring vehicle will find her teaming with A24 for the first time. It was announced earlier this month that she’d be leading a smaller scale drama from theater director Lila Neugebauer, who will be making her film debut with the untitled project, scripted by first-time screenwriter Elizabeth Sanders.

Set to shoot this summer, the first plot details have now arrived via Collider. They report the film will follow Lawrence as “a U.S. soldier who suffers a traumatic brain injury in Afghanistan and struggles to recover back home.” The PTSD drama is also eying Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta, Widows) to come aboard as the male lead, but no details on his potential role have been unveiled yet.

The film would mark Lawrence’s first war film, although she was attached to Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Lynsey Addariot’s memoir What I Do: A Photographer’s Life Of Love And War. As we await more details on the Scott Rudin-produced film, watch a brief interview with Neugebauer, who directed Kenneth Lonergan’s play The Waverly Gallery, starring Elaine May, Michael Cera, and Lucas Hedges.
