In a very short story, Variety has confirmed that Legendary Pictures with co-produce and co-finance with Warner Brothers a new Godzilla film for release in 2012. Legendary has bought the rights to the character from Toho, who will release the film in Japan.
The company has produced 28 films related to the character. Bloody Disgusting reported this news last August, but it has now been finalized. Roland Emmerich, who directed the 1998 NYC version starring Matthew Broderick, has said he is not interested in any sequels (thankfully). No details on plot have been released yet.
