After being one of the most profitable films of 2012, Warner Bros. quickly moved ahead on a sequel to Magic Mike aptly titled Magic Mike XXL. Instead of Steven Soderbergh directing (who will now take the roles of executive producer, cinematographer, and editor), the reigns have been handed over to his longtime assistant director and producer Greg Jacobs. With principal photography beginning ahead of a release next summer, the studio has now announced the full cast and synopsis.
Returning are Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Kevin Nash, Adam Rodriguez and Gabriel Iglesias (sorry, no Matthew McConaughey this time around) who will be joined by Elizabeth Banks, Donald Glover, Amber Heard, Andie MacDowell, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Michael Strahan. Initially revealed to be a road movie scripted by Reid Carolin, the first synopsis reveals more of what to expect. So, get those dollar bills ready and take a look directly below.
Picking up the story three years after Mike bowed out of the stripper life at the top of his game, “Magic Mike XXL” finds the remaining Kings of Tampa likewise ready to throw in the towel. But they want to do it their way: burning down the house in one last blow-out performance in Myrtle Beach, and with legendary headliner Magic Mike sharing the spotlight with them. On the road to their final show, with whistle stops in Jacksonville and Savannah to renew old acquaintances and make new friends, Mike and the guys learn some new moves and shake off the past in surprising ways.
Magic Mike XXL will open on July 1st, 2015.
