It’s impossible to escape super heroes this summer. If it isn’t the Avengers fever pandemic, they’re all over film news. Today was especially eventful – first, Jessica Chastain took to Facebook to settle premature reports of her interest in Iron Man 3. Last month, Hollywood’s new It girl was in talks to star as a “sexy scientist every bit as smart as Tony Stark”, but she has since decided to skip on the project. See her statement below courtesy of her Facebook Page:
Sorry to say that ‘Iron Man’ 3 isn’t going to work out. My schedule is jammed packed and I can’t fit anything else in. The press announced my possible attachment far too soon. I know many of you wanted me to be involved, and I’m so sorry to disappoint you. Hopefully there’ll be another Marvel film in my future. Shane Black and everyone on the IM3 team are really wonderful. I’m very excited to see the film when it comes out. xx
Considering the rate at which Chastain has been churning out movies over the last couple years, the development is no surprise. Besides shooting Kathryn Bigelow‘s bin Laden thriller Zero Dark Thirty this year, she’s also doing the dramatic double feature The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby. A person can only do so much.
Chastain’s announcement may not raise any eyebrows, but a recent update from Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim) might. Rumors have swirled around a possible film adaptation of Marvel’s Ant-Man, with Wright as director and a screenplay by Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) – Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige even said that the project was “the closest it’s ever been” to heading into production. But up until a playful tweet from Wright, there’s been little confirmation of the film actually moving forward.
Last Saturday, Wright sent a crudely designed, but highly suggestive artwork of a man, an ant and Ant-Man into the Twittersphere, complete with the caption, “Received this in the mail. What can it mean?” See image below:
If what it means is true, Ant-Man could be Marvel’s next big release for 2014, right along with Captain America 2.
Are you disappointed that Chastain won’t star in IM3? What do you think about the possibility of an Ant-Man movie?
