For the last handful of years, Robert Redford has only jumped in front of the camera for his own directorial features, so it was major news when the Hollywood vet became the sole leading man in the dialogue-free All is Lost, from Margin Call‘s J.C. Chandor. While we await release news on that film, a much bigger proposition has landed, which sees the Sundance head in some of the largest movies Hollywood has to offer.

According to Deadline, Marvel Studios is courting the actor to join the upcoming sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier. His role would be reportedly similar to Samuel L. Jackson‘s Nick Fury, as a senior lead of the S.H.I.E.L.D. collective. Joe and Anthony Russo‘s upcoming film is not all though, as we could perhaps seem him in more of the Marvel universe down the line.

In other Captain America-related news, Maximiliano Hernández confirmed he is returning as Agent Jasper Sitwell in the upcoming sequel and he’ll be joined by Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Scarlett Johansson, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp and Hayley Atwell. If talks go through, look for Redford and the gang in the superhero blockbuster when it lands on April 4, 2014.
