The man who once lost a hand to his father only to smite, and then try to save, said man is now a prolific comic book writer/voice actor/director?
That third one may become legitimate as Luke “Mark Hamill” Skywalker gears up to direct The Black Pearl, a five-issue comic book series he wrote himself. [Variety]
The story “focuses on a troubled man named Luther Drake who becomes a costumed vigilante “hero” by accident and media pressure” [First Showing]. Hamill describes the comic as a study in tabloid sensationalism and the like.
Hamill apparently turned down higher budget offers for the film (around $30 million) because it wasn’t contingent upon his directing. Pal Tamasy and Eric Johnson (who wrote David O. Russell’s The Fighter) are adapting the comic into screenplay form. He’s directing with a $7 million budget. Got to respect behind the passion behind the decision.
Have you read The Black Pearl? Will the force be with Hamill in the director’s chair?
