lizzie

Premiering earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival, Lizzie is a period drama with a dark twist, and it’s all based on a true story. Starring Chloë Sevigny and Kristen Stewart, we won’t dive fully into what the said twist is, in case you haven’t been privy to the real story by glancing at Wikipedia, but rest assured, it made for a divisive response upon its premiere.

Directed by Craig William Macneill and scripted by Bryce Kass, the first trailer has now arrived ahead of a release next month from Roadside Attractions, which shows off Sevigny and Stewart’s characters forming a deadly bond. Also starring Jamey Sheridan, Fiona Shaw, Kim Dickens, Denis O’Hare and Jeff Perry, see the trailer below.

Academy Award® nominee Chloë Sevigny (Boys Don’t Cry, “Big Love”) stars as Lizzie Borden, the notorious woman at the heart of one of the most enduring mysteries in American history. After a lifetime of loneliness, Lizzie finds a kindred spirit in housemaid Bridget Sullivan (Kristen Stewart) and their secret intimacy sparks an unthinkable act. Director Craig William Macneill (The Boy (2015), “Channel Zero: Candle Cove”) explores the days leading up to the savage crimes in a dark tale of repression, exploitation and thwarted dreams.

Lizzie opens on September 14.
