With The Avengers shooting and a distributor coming on board to Joss Whedon‘s long-shelved horror flick, it looks like things are finally turning around for the director. That’s right, The Cabin in the Woods is in the process of being picked up by Lionsgate. [Deadline]
Last spring we got sad news that Whedon and Drew Goddard‘s Cabin would not make its January 2011 release date. The film already been rescheduled twice due to the collapse of MGM. Well, MGM are back on their feet with The Hobbit and Bond 23, and now we can expect it to see it as soon as this year. Goddard (who wrote Cloverfield) directed his film, and Whedon wrote it.
The horror film involving some sort of monster, stars Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth (who is reuniting with Whedon on Avengers as we speak), as well as Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Jesse Williams and Kristen Connolly. The only MGM film waiting for distribution remains the Red Dawn remake, which also stars Hemsworth, alongside Josh Hutcherson (The Kids Are All Right, The Hunger Games) and Adrianne Palicki (star of NBC’s upcoming Wonder Woman). We just have to wait for that ridiculous villain change.
Lionsgate is rumored to release Woods this October, just in time for Halloween.
Are you excited we will finally see The Cabin in the Woods?
