In a nearly impossible feat, news worse than the Yogi Bear trailer and even Rihanna joining Battleship has surfaced. CS reports that Underworld and Live Free or Die Hard director Len Wiseman will be undertaking a Total Recall remake, written by Kurt Wimmer (Law Abiding Citizen, Salt).

The film will tell a “new, contemporized” version of the Paul Verhoeven 1990 action sci-fi flick starring Arnold Schwarzenegger based on the Philip K. Dick story, We Can Remember It for You Wholesale.

I don’t think the original is god’s gift but it is complete unnecessary. What irks me most is Kurt Wimmer‘s involvement. His last two projects, Salt and Law Abiding Citizen, were two of the worst films in recent memory. While I enjoyed Live Free or Die Hard, I hardly think Wiseman could bring such a necessary edge to a remake. This is what he had to say:

I’ve always been fascinated with Philip K. Dick’s short story, and I’m excited at that prospect of diving even deeper into the type of world it evokes and the questions it asks. I love that the most crucial mystery our character is trying to solve is the one of his own soul.

You can check out quotes from producers over at CS as we dread at what Wiseman/Wimmer will do at Sony with the remake. At best, let’s hope we can get four boobs this time.

Are you happy about a Total Recall remake?
