Ice Age’s creators have been teasing their latest effort, the high-flying animated adventure Rio, since last year. Last month we gave you a look at the film’s first two minutes. A few weeks back we posted the Super Bowl spot that paired slapstick and all 64 colors in the deluxe Crayola pack. Now we’ve got the international trailer, which kooky characters, recognizable celeb voices, and monkeys!

Official synopsis:

‘Rio’ is a 3-D animation feature from the makers of the ‘Ice Age’ films. Set in the magnificent city of Rio de Janeiro and the lush rainforest of Brazil, the comedy-adventure centers on Blu, a rare macaw who thinks he is the last of his kind. When Blu discovers there’s another — and that she’s a she — he leaves the comforts of his cage in small town Minnesota and heads to Rio. But it’s far from love at first sight between the domesticated and flight-challenged Blu and the fiercely independent, high-flying female, Jewel. Unexpectedly thrown together, they embark on an adventure of a lifetime, where they learn about friendship, love, courage, and being open to life’s many wonders. ‘Rio’ brings together a menagerie of vivid characters, a heart-warming story, colorful backdrops, energizing Latin and contemporary music, and family-friendly song and dance.

Looks like a rollicking good time for kids, with a slight twist on your typical American movie villain. Instead of a British bloke voicing the baddie, (like Cars 2 employing Michael Caine), Rio is mixing it up by casting New Zealander Jermanine Clement of Flight of the Conchords fame as the bullying bird, Nigel. Taking his nerd shtick to voicework, Jesse Eisenberg plays the easily kerfuffled Blu, while his cadre of colorful bird fellows are voiced by Anne Hathaway, Jamie Foxx, and George Lopez. A slew of other notable comedians will also be heard in this brightly festooned cartoon, including Leslie Mann, Tracy Morgan, Brian Baumgartner, Wanda Sykes, Neil Patrick Harris and Jane Lynch, which will likely attract some non-ankle-biting audience members.

Rio hits theaters in 3D April 15, 2011.
