An official selection at TIFF, Gravitas Ventures has unveiled the first trailer for The Rest of Us, the debut feature from Aisling Chin-Yee starring Heather Graham (Boogie Nights), Sophie Nélisse (The Book Thief), and Jodi Balfour (True Detective) ahead of its Valentine’s Day release.

The film conveys the struggles between two families forced to connect after the untimely death of the father, as his wife Rachel (Balfour) finds herself struggling financially after finding out her husband was secretly broke. To take care of her daughter she finds herself contending with his ex-wife Cami (Graham) and her emotionally aloof teenage daughter Aster (Nélisse), which provides challenging.

In his glowing review, Jared Mobarak said, “The Rest of Us truly is Graham and Balfour’s show. How they break down their defenses insofar as who they are in relation to Craig so they can reclaim their identities as independent women who own their mistakes is inspiring. Instead of looking for excuses, they seek an appreciation for what they’ve endured. Their pain isn’t the product of the other’s joy, but a universally shared point of connection.”

See the trailer below.

Cami (Heather Graham) is a children’s book author and illustrator who has been raising her surly and combative teenage daughter, Aster (Sophie Nélisse), on her own ever since her ex, Craig, abandoned them to start a new life with Rachel (Jodi Balfour). When an unforeseeable tragedy leaves Rachel and Tallulah (Abigail Pniowsky), the daughter she had with Craig, evicted and with no place to go, Cami steps in and offers to put them up in her rundown camper.

The Rest of Us opens in select theaters and VOD February 14th, 2020.
