After delivering the slick, wildly entertaining thriller Headhunters, it was only a matter of time before Norway’s Morten Tyldum got his Hollywood gig. He’s currently set to direct the Alan Turing biopic The Imitation Game with Benedict Cumberbatch in the leading role and now Deadline reports on a potential follow-up project.
According to the trade, he’s lining up an adaptation of Roger Hobbs‘ novel Ghostman, which sees him back in crime territory. Set up at Warner Bros. The Town‘s Peter Craig adapted the project that follows a professional criminal who becomes part of a bad casino heist that he must clean up…or he’ll die. It sounds like perfect material for Tyldum, so hopefully it becomes a reality after his next project is complete.
In other directing news, Snow White and the Huntsman helmer Rupert Sanders is still trying to figure out what to do next. After circling many projects, another one has been added to the table, according to Deadline. The director is attached to a new project titled The Kill List (no relation to Ben Wheatley‘s stunner), coming from Frederick Forsyth‘s upcoming thriller novel.
Sanders says, “It is a thrilling read and frighteningly accurate. It immerses us in the shadowy worlds of terrorists, spies, private contractors, US and UK special forces. It spans an epic, international world and delves deep into the psychology of its two main characters – ‘the hunter’ – a US Special Forces Tracker and ‘the hunted’ an extreme fundamentalist terrorist.” There’s no telling yet on if he’ll actually directed this one, but stay tuned.
Lastly, after almost being nominated for an Oscar with The Deep, Contraband director Baltasar Kormakur is sticking with English-language works following this summer’s 2 Guns, as Deadline reports on a new project. Scripted by himself, the film follows the true story of corruption in a jail, where politicians hire inmates to do their dirty work. If this sounds familiar, it’s also the basis for a recent Cannes Film Festival premiere titled On The Job. We’ve also got word from Bleeding Cool that Slumdog Millionaire writer Simon Beaufoy is currently scripting Everest for the director, which could shoot this fall with Christian Bale leading. Check back for more updates on what the prolific helmer will actually be heading up next.
Which of the above projects are you most looking forward to?
