Late last month we reported on Ryan Gosling joining George Clooney‘s next directorial effort, then titled Farragut North. Deadline reports the film, now titled Ides of March, has secured financing and will begin filming this March in Detroit. Gosling will join Paul Giamatti, Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood. Clooney, not content with simply directing and writing, will also join the cast in a key role.

The adaption of Beau Willimon‘s play follows “a young communications director who works for a fast rising presidential candidate. During the course of the campaign, the idealistic young man falls prey to the backstabbing and other dirty trickery of more seasoned rivals.”

Clooney and Grant Heslov, who head Smokehouse Productions and teamed for Good Night, Good Luck scripted this. Clooney will play the fast rising candidate while Giamatti plays “a rival campaign manager.” Tomei will act as a “reporter for the New York Times,” and Wood plays “an intern for the campaign.” I’m all for adult-geared drama and this sounds excellent.

Are you looking forward to Clooney’s Ides of March?
