Early last year it was reported that a film adaptation of Orson Scott Card‘s sci-epic Ender’s Game was terminated with Wolfgang Peterson rumored to direct. Now, LA Times is reporting the project has been revived and in “active development” with X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Rendition, and Tsotsi director Gavin Hood attached. The independent production company Odd Lot Entertainment is “pushing forward” with Hood recently completing a rewrite of the script. Check out a synopsis of the novel below.

Sci-fi novelist and Mormon activist Card garnered significant acclaim with his 1985 novel “Ender’s Game.” Based on his own short story, Card’s book tells of a world in which humans face a serious threat from an alien race known as the Formics and begin training elite military units in response.

Although the book comes off as a massive blockbuster with epic battle sequences, Card has previously said he wanted a film “where the human relationships are absolutely essential — an honest presentation of the story.” I’m hesitant on Hood as Wolverine and Rendition were pretty disappointing. It’s also an odd pick since Hood seems to be in director’s jail, only working on to straight-to-TV films the last few years. I’ve yet to read Ender’s Game, but on the good side I won’t be as pissed as you fans are right now.

Can Gavin Hood do Ender’s Game justice?
