Often including the best films across the entire ceremony, The Academy announced their Oscar shortlist for the Best Foreign Language Film category today. Pared down from 83 selected films, we now have nine features, which will eventually be cut down to five nominations, followed by the winner on Oscar night.
The shortlist includes personal favorites such as Wild Tales, Force Majeure, Leviathan, Ida, and Timbuktu. Disappointingly left off the list is Nuri Bilge Ceylan‘s Palme D’Or winner Winter Sleep, Xavier Dolan‘s Mommy, and the Dardennes‘ Two Days, One Night. Check it out below.
Argentina, “Wild Tales,” Damián Szifrón
Estonia, “Tangerines,” Zaza Urushadze
Georgia, “Corn Island,” George Ovashvili
Mauritania, “Timbuktu,” Abderrahmane Sissako
Netherlands, “Accused,” Paula van der Oest
Poland, “Ida,” Paweł Pawlikowski
Russia, “Leviathan,” Andrey Zvyagintsev
