After last year’s successful adaptation of The Hunger Games, and the final Twilight film racking up over $800 million at the box office, we entered 2013 with a bit of promise regarding the YA world, but Hollywood can’t be pleased with the results. After WB’s Beautiful Creatures failed to pass the $20 million domestic mark, The Host was next with barely crossing $25 million, then this weekend saw one of the biggest disappointments, as The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones didn’t even reach $10 million in its debut.

While we imagine Catching Fire will do just fine, early next year brings another new property hoping to launch a franchise with an adaptation of Veronica Roth‘s Divergent. Starring The Spectacular Now duo of Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller, the film tracks stars living in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. Directed by Limitless‘ Neil Burger, perhaps the most interesting inclusion is Kate Winslet in the rare villainous role. One can check out the teaser and stills below for the film also starring Theo James, Jai Courtney, Ray Stevenson, Zoë Kravitz, Maggie Q, Ashley Judd, Ansel Elgort, Mekhi Phifer and more.

Divergent opens on March 21st, 2014.

Do you think this could be a worthy YA adaptation?
