Today brings a batch of first-look images and leading things off is November Man, the next action thriller from Roger Donaldson (No Way Out, World’s Fastest Indian and The Bank Job). Led by Pierce Brosnan, Luke Bracey and Olga Kurylenko, the adaptation of a Bill Granger novel follows an ex-CIA operative who is brought back in on a very personal mission and finds himself pitted against his former pupil in a deadly game involving high level CIA officials and the Russian president-elect. The above, cliche image of our lead walking away from an explosion conjures up a few unintended laughs, but Donaldson is a strong director, so hopefully good things are in store.
Next up we have the first image from A Second Chance, which comes from director Susanne Bier, whose Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence-led Serena will finally be arriving in theaters this year. Her latest work recently kicked off project with Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in the lead and one can check out the debut still and synopsis below. [The Playlist]
Detectives and best friends Andreas and Simon lead vastly different lives; Andreas has settled down with his beautiful wife and son; while Simon, recently divorced, spends most of his waking hours getting drunk at the local strip club. But all that changes when the two of them are called out to a domestic dispute between a junkie couple, caught in a vicious cycle of violence and drugs. It all looks very routine – until Andreas finds the couple’s infant son, crying in a closet. The usually collected policeman finds himself confronted with his own powerlessness and is shaken to his core. As Andreas slowly loses his grip on justice, it suddenly becomes up to the unruly Simon to restore the balance between right and wrong. “A Second Chance” is a shocking, moving and thrilling drama about real people forced into incredible circumstances.
We also have the first batch of images from the upcoming drama Aloft, which recently got acquired by Sony Pictures Classics. Directed and written by by Claudia Llosa (Milk of Sorrow), the drama stars Jennifer Connelly, Cillian Murphy, Mélanie Laurent and William Shimell and tells the story of a struggling mother, Nana Kunning (Connelly) and her evolution to becoming a renowned artist and healer. When a young journalist, Jannia (Laurent) tracks down Nana’s son Ivan (Murphy) 20 years after she abandoned him, Jannia sets in motion an encounter between the two that will bring the very meaning of their lives into question. Check out the images below for the film we’d expect to be released by the end of the year. [Collider]
Lastly, we have our first images from Ari Taub‘s upcoming independent feature Walt Before Mickey.
