Under his Ninjas Runnin’ Wild banner, Zac Efron is set to star in The Necessary Death Of Charlie Countryman, once set to star Shia LaBeouf. Po-tay-toe, po-tah-toe one could say. The film tells the story of a young man wandering around Europe after the death of his mother. While across the pond, he falls in love with a girl with ties to an underground crime boss and all of his thugs. [The Playlist] Young Charlie Countryman must take beating after beating in order to win the love of his life. Sounds like something between a Luc Besson movie and Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World.
The film’s written by Matt Drake, and sat on the 2007 Black List. Drake’s also got the Todd Phillips/Joel Silver comedy Project X in development. And while there are no directors attached to Countryman at present, producers Nathan Kahane, Dean Parisot and William Horberg hope to get cameras rolling by the end of the year.
What do you think of this project? Is Efron a good fit?
