Take your shirt off and jump in my hot tub because we need to go back in time to see what DVDs are worth watching this week:

Grab ‘Em Right Away:

Nothing. Yup, this week is barren.

Check It Out:

Hot Tub Time Machine

Directed by: Steve Pink

Written by: Josh Heald & Sean Anders

Starring: John Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson & Clarke Duke

Why you should rent this: Because the film is a reason for us to get a ridiculous one crazy night ’80s comedy again.  I’m definitely not one of those people who love this movie from top to bottom but I think it has enough funny moments to make it worth a rental to watch with a bunch of friends, maybe even play a nice drinking game with it.  Craig Robinson and Clarke Duke stand out from the main cast.  Craig Robinson plays the hysterical guy who doesn’t know how to cope with his situation and is always completely over-the-top that it’s so fun to see his reaction with the crazy events taking place.  Clarke Duke just makes me laugh as he constantly says things that are so 2010 while he’s magically transported to the year when he was born.  It does have its issues when it comes to the third act in trying to tie up way too many things with its time travel basis, but overall it works as a mindless fun comedy.

The Crazies (check out our Blu-ray review here)

Directed by: Breck Eisner

Written by: Scott Kosar & Ray Wright

Starring: Timothy Olyphant, Radha Mitchell, Joe Anderson & Danielle Panabaker

Why you should rent this: Because I’ve come to realise that I love zombie movies and this one totally works as a fun zombie film.  While I was watching it I couldn’t help but remember how fun films like Planet Terror and Zombieland were.  Even though this movie gives me about 25% of the fun I got from other movies of this genre I still kind of enjoyed myself.  It also helps that I think that Timothy Olyphant is one of the best male leads today.  He knows how to bring a certain amount of gravitas to a role.  I’m always up for watching anything he stars in and this film is no different.

Avoid Like the Plague:

The White Ribbon (check out our theatrical reviews here and here)

Directed by: Michael Haneke

Written by: Michael Haneke

Starring: Christian Friedel, Ulrich Tukur, Fion Murtert & Maria-Victoria Dragus

Why you should not watch this movie: It does its best to introduce you this small town in Germany where these odd occurrences are happening, but in the end I didn’t gain anything from the film.  After the doctor injures himself after falling off his horse that’s tripped by some wire in the field the town becomes more and more antsy after each accident. The film reaches its high point at the end when our narrator actually gives us the most plausible theory as to who is actually creating the ruckus. The film has good points, but when the lights turned back on at the end of the movie I felt like I didn’t learn anything or find any real great overall story that I’m going to want to return to.  I wouldn’t really recommend this film to anyone other than those who consider themselves ridiculously high-brow film snobs who will attempt to expound on deep lying themes that I couldn’t find myself caring about.
