Apologies for the delay in this week’s DVD Pick of the Week. We are a day late but we’re back and here to give you the rundown on all the latest DVD and Blu-ray releases.

Grab ‘Em Right Away:

Green Zone
Blu-ray – Check out our review here

Directed by: Paul Greengrass

Written by: Brian Helgeland

Starring: Matt Damon, Greg Kinnear, Amy Ryan

Why should you buy this?

If the names Damon and Greengrass weren’t enough to grab your attention, then I don’t know what could. The duo that brought us the Bourne series returns with this smart, engaging and action-packed thriller. Greengrass is a master of action, directing this political frenzy with intensity and passion. Damon plays the role perfectly as an Army Captain who’s been misled and used. He takes control of every scene he’s in and provides a great performance. Green Zone is a very good film. It is a smart, exciting and well-paced thriller that is sure to excite even the biggest skeptics in the room.

Remember Me
Blu- ray – Check out our review here

Directed by: Allen Coulter

Written by: Will Fetters

Starring: Robert Pattinson, Emile de Ravin, Chris Cooper, Pierce Brosnan

Why should you buy this?

Remember Me was criminally overlooked when it came out. Shrugged off as a chick flick for the Robert Pattinson crazed girls, the film also came under fire for its controversial ending. If you haven’t seen this film I urge you to check it out now that it’s on Blu-ray and DVD. Pattinson gives a truly great performance and proves to us that he is more than just a pretty face. He’s supported by a great cast and Brosnan and Cooper are especially good in their roles. The film packs an emotional punch and the realism of it all helps us relate to the characters and situations they are in. I strongly suggest that you go out and pick this title up

Give it a Chance:

She’s Out Of My League Blu-ray – Check out our review here

Directed by: Jim Field Smith

Written by: Sean Anders and John Morris

Starring: Jay Baruchel, Alice Eve, T.J. Miller

Why should you rent this?

While it is incredibly predictable and follows a cliched and paint by numbers path, the film does manage to stand above most romantic comedies. It has heart and Jay Baruchel as the lead does a good job. The film is consistently funny and offers a heartwarming and relatable story. The cliches and predictability rear their ugly head and do get annoying but I’d certainely reccommend at least a rental. You’ll enjoy the film and find a sincere and heartfelt story. It’s fun, charming, and a film that we can all relate to in some way.

The Last Station Blu-ray – Check out our review here

Directed by: Michael Hoffman

Written by: Michael Hoffman

Starring: Helen Mirren, Christopher Plummer, Paul Giamatti, James McAvoy.

Why should you rent this?

The fact that it’s a period piece and deals with the end of Leo Tolstoy’s life may turn off some people right off the bat. The film is certainly hard to get a hold of if you don’t like period pieces or if you don’t know much about Tolstoy. Despite this, the film does offer four absolutely incredible performances which may just make it worth a rental. While the production values are pretty good, it is really the performances that make this film. Aside from the performances the film isn’t terribly enjoyable but I’d reccommend a rental.

The Rest:

Entourage Season 6 – The latest season of the phenomenal HBO show is now on Blu-ray. Season 7 starts June 27.

U2 360 at the Rose Bowl – Absolutely jaw dropping concert and a must own for U2 fans. I’ve watched my copy three times already.

Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 3D – While you do need a 3D TV to watch the 3D version the disc does include a 2D version. The film is pretty good and I wish I had a 3D TV to watch it on.

A Star Is Born – The classic Judy Garland film.

Hung The Complete First Season – Another great HBO show.
