Update: Microsoft has now officially announced that Fincher will actually be executive producing, while his Dragon Tattoo visual effects lead Tim Miller will direct the teaser. Check out the original story below.

While we wait around for David Fincher to decide if he’s going back to the Dragon Tattoo franchise, or perhaps something altogether different, the director has jumped on one of the biggest pieces of entertainment this fall. Microsoft is no stranger to major Hollywood talent lending a hand for their campaigns, notably bringing Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders aboard for previous Halo commercial, and now they’ve grabbed Fincher for an upcoming spot.

Daily Beast is reporting that Microsoft have hired Fincher to craft a “mysterious” two-minute teaser for their upcoming fourth edition into the Halo franchise. Reportedly a fan of the sci-fi action series, The Social Network helmer will bring along the talents of Conan O’Brien and Andy Richter as voices. It sounds like things are well on their way, with the short premiering just over a week on October 18th on Jimmy Fallon‘s late night show. In the meantime, check out one of Fincher’s Heineken commercials below, in which he recruited collaborator Brad Pitt.
