The cast of Tim Burton‘s upcoming remake of the TV show Dark Shadows just got much more Burtonized with the addition of his favorite leading lady (and current Oscar nominee) Helena Bonham Carter and his Batman Returns star Michelle Pfeiffer [Deadline].
This comes off news that Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley and Bella Heathcoate would be joining the cast alongside Johnny Depp in the lead role. It’s shaping up to be a pretty standard Burton cast, but the addition of Pfeiffer (who gave one of the best performances for the director as Catwoman) is particularly exciting. I suppose it was too much to ask that Burton not use BOTH Depp and Bonham Carter, but we all knew that wasn’t happening.
Pfeiffer is expected to play the matriarch of the Collins clan whereas Bonham Carter will play a psychologist that befriends the vampiric Depp character.
Speaking of Depp, the actor recently sat down with MTV to discuss his role in the film:
The actor had this to say about his upcoming role as a vampire:
“For me, even the conversations I’ve had with Tim, what Jonathan Frid did with that character and that classic look he created, I find it very difficult to stray very far from that. I think it’s going to be somewhere in that arena, with maybe just a couple of different touches here and there.”
“There’s something about this vampire coming back after 200 years into this modern world, with a touch of the poetic, with maybe a tendency to maybe wax a little poetic now and again,” said the actor. “I have a good feeling about it. But Jonathan Frid’s Barnabas was so special.” (via MTV News)
Dark Shadows will be released in 2012.
What do you think of the cast for Burton’s latest film? Are you tired of his partnership with Depp and Bonham-Carter?
