Things are looking pretty good for director Scott Cooper. Known for his 2009 Oscar-winning Crazy Heart, which he wrote and directed, Cooper is teaming up with Fox Searchlight once again. This time it’s for an adaptation of Mark Seal’s nonfiction novel, The Man in the Rockefeller Suit. Donald de Line will produce the picture, through his De Line Pictures. [Deadline]
As of right now, Cooper is set to direct and possibly write the script. However, his title as writer all depends on the future casting of his latest project, The Emperor’s Children, which is an adaptation of Claire Messud‘s 2006 novel of the same name. Just last week Cooper replaced Noah Baumbach (The Squid and the Whale) as director for the project.
The Man in the Rockefeller Suit details the life of German-born conman, Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter, who climbs the social pyramid by impersonating a member of the Rockefeller clan. Throughout his life, he gets jobs on Wall Street, marries a successful businesswoman and makes his way through different social circles. It wasn’t until his 12-year marriage dissolved and arrest for kidnapping his daughter, that his scam was revealed.
Cooper is also slated to direct a remake of Argentine film Carancho and is in contract with Relativity Media to write and direct Out of the Furnace. This project was previously billed as The Low Dweller, named after the story by Brad Ingelsby, but has since been changed.
Do you think Cooper is a good pick to adapt Rockefeller?
