While Spike Jonze is working on his own, continuing to make excellent films and music videos, Charlie Kaufman is trying out the directing side himself. After collaborating on Being John Malkovich and Adaptation, 24 Frames reports they are looking to work together again.

They would resume their normal duties with Jonze directing and Kaufman going back to writing on a secret project that they are currently pitching and “making the rounds to independent financiers in recent weeks.” That is all we really know on the project. Charlie Kaufman is also involved with what is likely a separate project, titled Frank or Francis. It is a  “Hollywood satire in the form of a musical…and has an art-imitating-life conceit somewhat in the vein of Adaptation.” It definitely sounds intriguing but it looks like it has stalled at Sony.

Frank or Francis would follow “a director embraced for broadly commercial hits resents his success and wants to be considered an auteur and artiste.” Sounds just as personal as Kaufman’s other works. I’ve loved everything this duo has done together and separately, for the most part. It would be great to see them get back together on a film.

Are you a fan of Jonze/Kaufman? Would you like to see them team up again or stay their separate ways?
