Could Carl Rinsch finally be getting into feature territory? The popular commercial director was attached to direct the Alien prequel before Ridley Scott decided he wanted to do it himself. Then he wowed everything a few months ago withe excellent sci-fi short The Gift, which you can view below.

Now Heat Vision is reporting that Warner Bros is in talks with the director to helm Logan’s Run, an update to the 1976 film starring Michael York, Jenny Agutter and Farrah Fawcett. It was based on a 1967 novel by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson about “a future society that demands the death of everyone upon reaching a certain age. Anyone who veers from that destiny is dubbed a “runner” and is hunted by operatives known as Sandmen. Logan is a Sandman who is forced to go on the run.”

The project has been long gestating, with Bryan Singer attached to direct at one point before Superman Returns. Heat Vision reports that Robert Schwenke (Flightplan), James McTeigue (V For Vendetta, Ninja Assassin), and Joseph Kosinski (upcoming Tron Legacy) were all attached at one point. Now we wait as Warners is looking at new writers for the project. In the meantime, check out The Gift.
