The writer-director-husband-wife duo behind Half Nelson, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, finally have a new trailer for their film Sugar. The film follows Dominican born baseball pitcher Miguel “Sugar” Santos (played by Algenis Perez Soto), who gets recruited to play in the minor leagues in the US. Sugar premiered at Sundance Film Festival in 2008 but didn’t get picked up until recently by Sony Pictures Classics. I loved Half Nelson, especially Ryan Gosling’s performance and the verite camerawork. The trailer looks like it captures the magic of their debut. The film hits limited release April 3rd, 2009.
