Nearly a year after it premiered at Cannes Film Festival, The Weinstein Company will finally be giving James Gray‘s The Immigrant a theatrical release in the United States, albeit a limited one. We commended the film at Cannes, saying in our full review, “Set in 1921 New York, [it’s a] sprawling tale of an American dream gone awry. Immaculate production design and stunning cinematography by Darius Khondji evoke the era-appropriate atmosphere in a manner not at all dissimilar from Gordon Willis‘ design of The Godfather Part II.”

The first U.S. trailer has finally landed, along with an egregiously Photoshopped poster, but the former provides a beautiful look at Gray’s period piece, which stars Joaquin Phoenix, Marion Cotillard, and Jeremy Renner. Ahead of a release in just under a month, one can check out the trailer and poster below, and if you missed it last fall, the full NYFF press conference can be seen here.

The Immigrant opens on May 16th.
