As one might expect, last night’s Breaking Bad finale was the ideal venue for competing studios to reach the eyeballs of millions. 20th Century Fox showed off The Counselor, while Warner Bros. revealed a Gravity TV spot and Open Road released a Breaking Bad-themed Machete Kills tease. The winner of the night, however, was easily Sony’s two-minute extended trailer for Paul Greengrass‘ Captain Phillips.
Attempting to match the intensity of Vince Gilligan‘s show, the sneak peek shows off a scene during the initial hijacking before ratcheting up the tension with bits from the rest of the film. Having recently seen the drama during its NYFF premiere, we said in our full review, it “may be a thinly scoped story with tried-and-true themes, but the acting turns it into a surprisingly captivating story of heroism.” Watch the new trailer below, as well as the 20-minute NYFF press conference with Paul Greengrass, Tom Hanks and newcomer Barkhad Abdi.
Captain Phillips opens on October 11th.
