We’ve gotten teasers and trailers from just about every country for Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson‘s The Adventures of Tintin, but today the motherload has arrived. We get our first look at actual clips from the film (5, to be exact) and remarkable behind-the-scenes footage. First up, I’ve only watched two of the clips to save something for the actual film, but the attention to detail is utterly astounding. Whether it is Captain Haddock’s beard or the hanging lights in the ship or the perfect water effects, Spielberg and team have created one of the most beautiful films of the year.

Then there is the 15+ minutes of candid behind-the-scenes footage. We see Simon Pegg and Nick Frost encounter Jamie Bell, all in their motion capture suits, while early pre-visualization plays on a side monitor in real-time. Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson are clearly having a ball on set, as they test new ideas on the fly. I’ve heard the first screenings of the film will occur this weekend in other countries, so be on the look out for reactions. For now, check out all the wonderful footage below.

Update: The first reviews have poured in as Belgian press were screened the film today. The translation is rough, but you can sense their glowing praise below. I’ve included a few brief snippets of both, but click the link for the full reviews.

Lesoir:

Steven Spielberg succeeds with flying colors, a great adventure film popular in the best sense of the word. Rhythmic, colored and full of relief. This movie shows thirty years of love from Spielberg on the world of Tintin, with a juvenile passion that you feel right away, no doubt at all on the sincerity of the approach.

Telebruxelles:

The film is paced to perfection, funny and designed to please all audiences. A beautiful tribute to Hergé, made by the duo Spielberg / Jackson, who have all the cards in their hands to hook a new generation of fans.

RTBF:

“Tintin and the Secret of the Unicorn” is an outstanding achievement.

Moustique:

When the end credits come, we realize this film could not honestly be better than what it is. Anyone from 7 to 77 years will love Tintin.
