After Toronto International Film Festival unveiled their initial line-up, earlier this week, it’s time for Venice to show off what they’ll be premiering. With Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu‘s Birdman already confirmed as their opener, their line-up includes a mix of features that’ll be also stopping by TIFF, but a handful of promising exclusive premieres.
Fatih Akin‘s drama The Cut, Joshua Oppenheimer‘s The Act of Killing “sequel” The Look of Silence, Peter Bogdanovich‘s She’s Funny That Way, Joe Dante‘s Burying the Ex, Laika’s animation The BoxTrolls, Lars von Trier‘s director’s cut of the second half of Nymphomaniac, Ulrich Seidl‘s In The Basement, Michael Almereyda‘s Cymbeline, as well as new films from Hong Sang-Soo, Quentin Dupieux, James Franco, and Roy Andersson are all part of the line-up.
As for what’ll already be at TIFF, those titles include 99 Homes, Manglehorn, Good Kill, The Humbling, Pasolini, Hungry Hearts, and more. So yes, no Terrence Malick or Werner Herzog as one might have hoped, but it’s a promising array of features. We’ll be covering the festival this year, so make sure to check back for our coverage.
