Despite delays due to an out-of-control budget, Bradley Cooper tried to reassure us as best he could during Sundance this year that “everything was going great” on Alex Proyas‘ fantasy epic Paradise Lost. It turns out things were exactly the opposite, as Deadline reports that Legendary Pictures have completely scrapped the film, that was set to shoot this summer.

Cooper and the cast including Benjamin Walker, Diego Boneta and Camilla Belle will have to fill in their summer schedules, as the report indicates it may get revived at some point, but certainly not soon. One reason it was scrapped due to needing technology to catch up with their huge heaven and earth battles, a interesting reason seeing how James Cameron has successfully utilized the breakthrough technology with his Avatar space epic. I do wonder what Proyas had in store that is impossible to be created at this point.

In the end, they could be just as hesitant as other studios shuttering their futuristic blockbusters (see: Warner Bros. and the long battle with Akira). Both are risky endeavors in a marketplace that is trying to play everything as safe as possible. I was honestly interested in seeing what came of this, but it looks like it will be a long time down the road, if ever.

What do you think about Legendary scrapping Paradise Lost?
