Canadian band Metric recently made a splash in the film world with their song Black Sheep, featured in last year’s Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. They’ve now teamed up with another Canadian icon, director David Cronenberg, for his upcoming film Cosmopolis. Announced on their official site, the band will team with long-time Cronenberg composer Howard Shore. Check out their statement below.

…we just confirmed we will be working with our favorite film composer Howard Shore on the score for a new David Cronenberg movie starring Robert Pattinson, minus the vampires! It’s an adaptation of the book “Cosmopolis” by Don DeLillo, and the themes are right in tune with the overall mood of the world at the moment. In “Cosmopolis”, the rat has become a unit of currency!

Cosmopolis is the story of a young multi-billionaire named Eric Parker (Pattinson) who journeys across Manhattan in his luxurious, hi-tech stretch limo to get a haircut. The story covers roughly one day in Parker’s life, during which time he meets a motley cast of characters (played by Samantha Morton, Juliette Binoche, Paul Giamatti, Kevin Durand and Sarah Gadon, among others), losing his fortune along the way.

As a big fan of Metric it is excited to hear about this collaboration. I was disappointed in Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method, but I’ll anticipate any film from him. We recently heard Shore’s great score in Martin Scorsese‘s Hugo (full recap here), and one that still needs to get re-recorded with a full orchestra. His work will also be heard in Peter Jackson‘s upcomig The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again.

Expect Cosmopolis at Cannes or on the fall film festival circuit next year. Check out Metric‘s live performance of Black Sheep from Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World at Comic-Con below.
