Appearing high up on our most-anticipated films of the year rundown was the next project from Crazy Heart director Scott Cooper, the thriller Out of the Furnace. With a tone reportedly not dissimilar to No Country For Old Men, the tale of brotherly crime packs one of the best ensembles of the year, with Christian Bale, Zoe Saldana, Woody Harrelson, Forest Whitaker, Casey Affleck, Willem Dafoe, Sam Shepard, Boyd Holbrook and more. Now, although production finished last year, we’ve got word of another talent joining the crew.

According to LA Times, Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder will not only be contributing previous songs to the soundtrack, but will also be writing a brand new one. The successful musician has most notably entered the film world with his original soundtrack for Sean Penn‘s 2007 survival tale Into the Wild. While no other details are available, Cooper has a knack for picking great music, with Ryan Bingham’s track The Weary Kind not only picking up an Oscar, but a Grammy as well. Expect Vedder to follow suit here and check out a synopsis of the film below, along with his full Wild score, while we hopefully will get more concrete distribution news soon.

The film is a drama about fate, circumstance, and redemption. Russell and his younger brother live in the economically depressed Rust Belt, and have always dreamed of escaping and finding better lives. But when a cruel twist of fate lands Russell in prison, his brother is lured into one of the most violent and ruthless crime rings in the Northeast – a mistake that will almost cost him everything. Once released, Russell must choose between his own freedom, or risk it all to seek justice for his brother.

Are you looking forward to Vedder’s music in Furnace?
