Since Christopher Nolan burst into the mainstream, many have questioned if he’d ever want to formally direct a James Bond. The director more or less outfitted his Inception lead Leonardo DiCaprio to look like the agent after all, but the question of whether or not the helmer would even want to take on 007 has been up in the air.

He revealed last year that he in fact was interested, but “it would have to be the right situation and the right time in their cycle of things.” It looks like now may be the case, as Baz Bamigboye reports that the helmer has formally been approached about helming the next James Bond film. While we wouldn’t have believed other reports regarding this matter, Bamigboye is usually trustworthy on all Bond-related matters, even providing major casting updates for Skyfall.

He reveals that early talks have begun with longtime producers Barbara Broccoli & Michael G. Wilson and Nolan, now that Sam Mendes is not in the picture. Even if the discussions go well, we’d have a hard time believing that Nolan has time for the 24th Bond film, considering most of his year is carved out preparing, shooting and editing his sci-fi epic Interstellar. As a source says, “It does no harm for Broccoli and Wilson to talk with Nolan, even if nothing happens this time round.” So, I suppose we can expect a Nolan-helmed Bond movie sometime, perhaps just not for number 24.
