In case you haven’t heard, Ben Affleck transformed into the new Batman overnight, resulting in a monsoon of nerd tears. But with all the hubbub over everything from what his voice would be like to how pronounced his bat suit nipples would be, we really only had a sole question: what does this mean for his next directorial feature?

Sadly, the news isn’t good. Before the call from Zack Snyder came along, the original plan was for Affleck to complete his work on David Fincher‘s Gone Girl in the fall and then jump directly into his adaptation of Dennis Lehane‘s Live By Night. Both films would be released by late 2014 and all was well in the world.

Now, THR reports that the Batman commitment has changed Affleck’s schedule. Fincher’s film will still go ahead as planned from next month to February then Affleck will be busy with Snyder’s Man of Steel sequel from February to August (also revealing that he may have a more substantial role in the tentpole than some thought). Then, finally, his Prohibition-set crime drama will kick off in fall 2014 for what’s likely now a 2015 release.

While this means Affleck will have a major 2015, we’re certainly a little disappointed that we won’t get to see him behind the camera for some time now. For those also wondering if Affleck will take up the Bruce Wayne character for multiple films, sources say that is indeed the case. So while there is no confirmation of any standalone Batman films, we can expect Affleck to be the one donning the bat suit whenever Justice League lands.

Are you disappointed we won’t see Affleck’s Argo follow-up until 2015?
