Oliver Stone‘s sequel Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps opened with an average weekend, but still earned the top spot in a pretty dispersed box office. It earned an estimated $19 million domestically, well ahead of the runner-up. Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole set the record for Most Letters In A Single Title, and brought in $16.3 million in its opening weekend.
Just behind, in third, The Town continued to earn, raking in $16 million in its second weekend. It has now earned a reasonable $49.1 million, more than covering its costs. You Again debuted in fifth, earning $8.3 million.
Inception maintained its top 10 run, earning an additional $1.2 million in its 11th week. It has now grossed a huge $287 million domestically.
Highly anticipated documentary Waiting For Superman debuted in four theaters, earning $141,000 (average of $35,000 per theater). It is the early front runner for Best Doc at this year’s Oscars.
Coming up next week, lauded biopic-ish The Social Network takes on vampire horror Let Me In. With such a strong advertising campaign, I expect the former to have a formidable opening weekend, taking in most of the cash.
