Warner Bros. have done some shuffling for a pair of promising adult dramas bowing in the fall. Originally set to hit theaters on September 14th, they’ve moved Ben Affleck‘s hostage thriller Argo to October 12th. That was the date Ruben Fleischer‘s crime drama The Gangster Squad was set to unspool, but instead they’ve pulled it from the spot and will reschedule for later this year. [Variety]
It doesn’t mean much for Argo, only that this will closely follow the release pattern of Affleck’s debut Gone Baby Gone. As for Gangster Squad, this could be promising for the film starring Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Michael Peña, Robert Patrick, Anthony Mackie, Emma Stone, Nick Nolte and Giovanni Ribisi. WB could be more confident in the film and give it a prime Oscar run slot in December or November.
In other release date news Relativity Media has set a March 15th, 2013 bow for 21 and Over, a new comedy from The Hangover scribes Jon Lucas and Scott Moore. Starring Miles Teller, Justin Chon, Skylar Astin and Sarah Wright, the film follows “two childhood friends who drag their straight-arrow buddy out to celebrate his twenty-first birthday the night before an all-important medical school interview. But when one beer leads to another, the evening spirals into a wild epic misadventure of debauchery and mayhem that none of them will ever forget.”
Sounds like a teenage version of The Hangover, which makes me expect something a long the lines of Project X. It will now bow a week after Sam Raimi‘s Oz: The Great and Powerful and a week before Paul Greengrass‘ Captain Phillips, Bryan Singer‘s Jack the Giant Killer and the animation The Croods. As for Argo and Gangster Squad, hopefully we’ll get our first teasers this summer.
