Ocean’s Thirteen aside, in his first leading summer tentpole role in nearly a decade, expectations have been shaky for Brad Pitt‘s World War Z. Despite the many behind the scenes reports of a calamitous work environment, it looks like Marc Forster‘s large-scale zombie blockbuster could surprise, judging from some early screening reports.

We’ve now got the first clip from the film, which features Pitt as United Nations employee Gerry Lane, faced with a decision of protecting his family or saving the world. The film seems to be taking a weighty, serious tone, which will hopefully jive with the zombie mayhem. Check out the footage below, along with a new poster.

Update: See a second clip below.

Based on Max Brooks’ best-selling novel “World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War,” the story revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.
