While year-end roundtables with actresses and writers might garner more attention, one of the more fascinating discussions each year features cinematographers. This year, Roger Deakins (Unbroken), Dion Beebe (Into the Woods), Jeff Cronenweth (Gone Girl), Benoit Delhomme (The Theory of Everything), Matthew Libatique (Noah), and Dick Pope (Mr. Turner) all gathered for a 40-minute conversation with THR.
They discuss frequent collaborations with certain directors, inspiration (Deakins comments that Sidney Lumet‘s film The Hill was a guiding force for Angelina Jolie‘s feature), reading criticism, tracking the weather, working with directors as actors (notably Cronenweth and Ben Affleck), and much more.
While talents such as Emmanuel Lubezki and Hoyte Van Hoytema are unfortunately absent (we imagine they are shooting The Revenant and prepping Bond 24, respectively), one can watch the full conversation below.
What’s your favorite cinematography this year?
