For the first time ever we will be getting two Pixar films in one year. Disney has announced that a Monsters Inc. sequel will hit theaters November 16th 2012, just over 11 years after the original. They also announced that The Bear and The Bow has taken a note from the simple Up title and been changed to Brave for a June 15th, 2012 release. [via /Film]

The Prince of Egypt director/writer Brenda Chapman is behind Brave, Pixar’s “first fary tale.” The film stars Reese Witherspoon as the “impetuous, tangle-haired Merida, though a daughter of royalty, would prefer to make her mark as a great archer. A clash of wills with her mother compels Merida to make a reckless choice, which unleashes unintended peril on her father’s kingdom and her mother’s life. Merida struggles with the unpredictable forces of nature, magic and a dark, ancient curse to set things right. Director Brenda Chapman and the storytelling wizards of Pixar conjure humor, fantasy and excitement in this rich Highland tale.”

Peter Docter, who was behind Up and the original Monsters said he wouldn’t return for a  sequel because of other projects. The plot and director is unknown for now. I loved the original so I fully support a sequel.

The next Pixar film is Toy Story 3 on June 18th followed by Cars 2 a year later on June 24th, 2011.
