Although they are often lambasted for recycling their popular franchises, one has to give credit to DreamWorks Animations in 2013. The studio is kicking things off with two original properties and we already saw a look at one, The Croods, and now the first trailer for their summer offering, Turbo, has landed.

After working on Shark TaleDavid Soren will make his feature debut with the film and based on the first portion of this teaser, one would think this is a kid-friendly version of Nicolas Winding Refn‘s Drive, considering the use of ChromaticsTick Of The Clock. But soon we’re introduced to our main character (a snail voiced by Ryan Reynolds) and…that’s about it.

Hopefully we’ll get more story in the next look, but for now check out the teaser below (or over on Apple) for the film also featuring voice work by Paul Giamatti, Michael Pena, Luis Guzmán, Bill Hader, Richard Jenkins, Ken Jeong, Michelle Rodriguez, Maya Rudolph, Ben Schwartz, Kurtwood Smith, Snoop Dogg and Samuel L. Jackson.

Synopsis:

From the makers of Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda, Turbo is a high-velocity 3D comedy about an underdog snail who kicks into overdrive when he miraculously attains the power of super-speed. But after making fast friends with a crew of streetwise, tricked-out es-car-goes, Turbo learns that no one succeeds on their own. So he puts his heart and shell on the line to help his pals achieve their dreams, before Turbo-charging his own impossible dream: winning the Indy 500.

Turbo opens on July 19th, 2013.
