Since jumping into features in the late 90’s, France’s François Ozon has crafted, on average, just about one a year, so it should be no surprise he’s displaying no signs of slowing down. Last year saw the U.S. release of In the House, alongside a new drama, Young & Beautiful, at Cannes Film Festival, and we expect him to return to the event with yet another anticipated project, The New Girlfriend. Today brings a new trailer for the middle project, which is expected to get a release this year from Sundance Selects.
If the featured still above didn’t clue you in, this one is NSFW, giving us a glimpse of our story, which follows Isabelle, (Marine Vacth), a woman who becomes a prostitute soon after losing her virginity. We said in our Cannes review that it’s a “journey of sexual awakening and experimentation that is at times reminiscent of a teenage version of Luis Bunuel‘s Belle du Jour. Often melancholic but interspersed with some unexpectedly funny candid moments, Ozon presents an non-judgmental voyeuristic peek into the life of an underage prostitute.”
Check out the trailer and international poster as we await details on the U.S. release:
YOUNG & BEAUTIFUL stars Marine Vacth as Isabelle, a 17 year old on a summer holiday with her family when she loses her virginity. Told across four seasons, Isabelle begins working as a call girl, eventually developing something of a relationship with an older man who treats her better than many of her other clients. After an unexpected event, Isabelle’s mother learns of the girl’s secret life , causing a great amount of conflict between everyone in the family and leading to complications between Isabelle and her stepfather.
Young & Beautiful will be released this year by Sundance Selects.
