Although she was celebrated on stage, Cynthia Erivo finally made a major splash on the big screen last fall with Widows and stealing the show in the underseen Bad Times at the El Royale. This year, she returns with a major lead performance as Harriet Tubman in the aptly named Harriet, the trailer for which has now arrived.

Directed and co-written by Kasi Lemmons (Eve’s Bayou, Talk to Me) with Gregory Allen Howard (Ali, Remember the Titans) the biopic includes an impressive supporting cast, featuring Leslie Odom Jr., Janelle Monáe, Joe Alwyn, Jennifer Nettles, and Clarke Peters. Set for a November release, we’ll imagine Focus Features will bring this one to the fall festival circuit.

See the trailer below.

Based on the story of iconic freedom fighter Harriet Tubman, Harriet follows Tubman on her escape from slavery and subsequent missions to free dozens of slaves through the Underground Railroad in the face of growing pre-Civil War adversity.

Harriet opens on November 1.
