From the twisted visionary that brought you Bubba Ho-Tep (you know that freaky horror-comedy in which “Elvis” becomes best buds with a now black “JFK” in an old folks home while they fight a mummy who sucks the life out senior citizens through their sphincters?), comes John Dies at the End. Based on the comedic horror novel by David Wong that first made the rounds on the web in 2001, this fantasy-laden horror feature is set in a world forever altered by a mild-altering drug with the street name Soy Sauce. Infected and unable to tell fantasy from reality, college buds John (who presumably dies at the end) and David must fight the alien invasion that’s taking advantage of mankind’s debilitating new addiction.

Writer/director Don Coscarelli and creepy character actor Doug Jones (who memorably played the menacing ice cream vendor in Legion) stopped by Fantastic Fest to debut the teaser trailer for this deeply strange feature that boasts such talent as Paul Giamatti, Glynn Turman and Clancy Brown.

Shades of Slither and Strange Days make me eager to see this freaky flick, which is slated to hit theaters in 2012. If you want to learn more about the John Dies At the End, its source material or its author David Wong, check out his demented Q&A at Cracked.

Has this teaser whetted your appetite for Soy Sauce and John Dies at the End?
