Now that you’ve seen the first trailer for one 2017-bound franchise expansion to a beloved Ridley Scott sci-fi classic, it’s time for another. Unlike Blade Runner 2049, however, the director is coming back to the helming chair for Alien: Covenant, which ditches any references to its Prometheus moniker, hopefully making for a more terrifying return to the style of the original. Judging from this first red band trailer, released on Christmas Day, things are going to get quite bloody.
“I think Walter’s a real different kettle of fish,” Michael Fassbender tells Coming Soon. “David was definitely a work-in-progress, somewhat of a prototype I suppose. The elements of him that were the human elements I think people found a little disturbing, so Walter’s more of a straightforward robot. Pretty logical, much more of a servant without the ego.”
Also featuring the return of Noomi Rapace and Guy Pearce, as well as franchise newcomers Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Billy Crudup, Amy Seimetz, and James Franco, check out the first trailer below.
Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with ALIEN: COVENANT, a new chapter in his groundbreaking ALIEN franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.
Alien: Covenant opens on May 19, 2017.
