Around Christmas time (perhaps on the exact day) of 1996, the six-year-old JonBenét Patricia Ramsey was murdered in Boulder, Colorado and in the 20-plus years since, the perpetrator has yet to be found. Containing the ingredients to become a run-away hit for Netflix, Casting JonBenet takes an intriguing angle with exploring the infamous unsolved murder.
Following a premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, Kitty Green‘s documentary will hit the streaming platform at the end of next month (along with a small theatrical release) and now the first trailer has landed. Judging from this preview, it looks to take a meta approach in forming a recreation of the surrounding events and those involved in what promises to be a powerful, dark experience. While we doubt there will be any more answers given regarding the case, reviews for the James Schamus-produced project have been quite positive, indicating an impressive piece of storytelling.
Check out the trailer and poster below.
In 1996, Boulder, Colorado was rocked by the mysterious death of six-year-old pageant queen, JonBenet Ramsey. Two decades later, director Kitty Green returns to audition local actors, unpacking how each remembers and relates to the ill-fated Ramsey family. A darkly moving exploration of crime, guilt and personal bias, Casting JonBenet expertly blurs the lines between documentary and drama.
Casting JonBenet hits Netflix on April 28 and it will also get a one-week run at Metrograph.
