The Social Network seems to have made stars out of quite a few young American actors. Even when you don’t count the fact that Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield and Rooney Mara are all a lot more well known now, it may always be remembered as the movie that shot Armie Hammer and Josh Pence to stardom, should they do so. Hammer played both the Winklevoss twins in the film and shall go on to be the lead in Gore Verbinski’s Lone Ranger whereas Josh Pence played his body double and shall be starring in The Dark Knight Rises along with about a million others.
Another star as emerged it seems, as Dakota Johnson has been selected to play the lead female role in Gay Dude which will be directed by Chris Nelson and penned by Alan Yang. Johnson played an insignificant role in The Social Network, starring as the Stanford student who slept with Justin Timberlake‘s character. She probably had less than five minutes screentime, but with this upcoming role and numerous others such as Theo, Goats and The Five-Year Engagement, she has a big chance to shine. [Variety]
The official synopsis for Gay Dude:
“Two guys who make a pact to lose their virginity before prom find their friendship tested when one of them comes out of the closet.”
It sounds like a pretty typical teen film plot and director Chris Nelson is unproven as of yet, but I’ll look on the bright side and hope for an enjoyable flick. Johnson’s role is unknown but it will be interesting to see how good an actress she really is. She will star alongside Hunter Cope, Nicholas Braun and Sarah Hyland (wh0 you may recognize from Modern Family) and the film shall be distributed by Lionsgate.
