Firstshowing has reported that Empire via British comics artist Mark “Jock” Simpson’s Twitter announced Sunshine and 28 Days Later writer Alex Garland is working on a new update to Judge Dredd. Yes, a remake of the 1995 Danny Cannon directed film starring Sylvester Stallone. Garland is most closely associated with director Danny Boyle. Garland is working under his DNA Films company. Artist Mark Simpson has exclaimed “Working through script visuals for Judge Dredd movie. Alex Garland writes a great script.”
I have no doubt Garland will pull out a great script, as I loved (most) of his previous ones. It will be interesting to see him write for someone other than Boyle. I can only assume Boyle will not be attached to this project. I have never actually seen the original film, but I’ve heard it’s awesomely bad.
