Now this is the Steven Spielberg I love. Deadline is reporting the director will officially make Robopocalypse his next feature. Cloverfield writer Drew Goddard has adapted Daniel H. Wilson‘s novel “about the human race’s attempt to survive an apocalyptic robot uprising.” The novel doesn’t even hit stores until June 2011, but Spielberg jumped on this project earlier this year. Co-President of Dreamworks, Mark Sourian, has said the following:

“Robopocalypse embodies an imaginative story of a robot rebellion unleashed against the human race. This is a project we immediately sparked to and with Steven directing it we knew it was in the best possible hands to bring it to worldwide audiences.”

I loved Cloverfield, but even if you didn’t click with the characters, I’m sure Spielberg will get that right this time around. It sounds like a completely epic tale that is perfect for him. Just need to get rid of the silly title and I’m 100% in. Although he won’t start shooting until January 2012 he has already started storyboarding. The decade of Spielberg has only just begun as we will see his next blockbuster, The Adventures of Tin Tin: The Secret of the Unicorn, as well his drama War Horse both hitting theaters in December 2011.

Robopocalypse hits theaters in 2013.

What do you think about the story? It is a good project for Spielberg?
